Mornings and Thanksgiving

It's 6:33 AM, and I'm awake.

For those of you who have seen me in the morning, this may come as a surprise to you. Heck, it comes as a surprise to me. I expected to drop btoblake off at work, come home and pass out. Instead I woke up at 5 AM... Okay, 5:20 AM... showered, dressed, had breakfast, and drove the wife to work. Now I'm sitting around Starbucks, sipping my mocha, and contemplating things.

I don't think I've had a routine similar to this since I went to TJ. And I think my body still kinda remembers it. Although that routine involved wondering around zombie-like, getting shuffled off to the bus stop by my mother and passing out on the bus. (What else was I going to do for over an hour on a school bus?)

Also, I went to bed at 9! Well, 9:30. Ish. But (I don't know if they read this) my parents know how much of a fight it's always been to get me to bed before 11. But I did this one voluntarily, with little protest. Mostly because I knew how much this morning would suck if I did stay up late.

The subject of this post involves thanksgiving. And I mean that as giving of thanks, not Thanksgiving a day of family, turkey, and (for many people, but not often myself) football. Really, giving thanks for things is something that should be done often, not once a year.

I'm thankful for Starbucks for opening at 5-freaking-30 in the morning. OMGWTFBBQ? I thought getting to work at 6:30 was painful. But I guess someone has to make coffee for the people who get to work at 6. And I'm glad they do.

I'm thankful for my mother, for getting up at this hour every morning for 4 years. She made sure I was up, dressed, had my books, and made it to the bus. As I grow up, I realize more and more what my parents did for me. Thank you.

And, you know what? I'm thankful for my friends. My friends made high school worth going to every morning. My friends helped me through being horribly depressed (whether they knew it or not). And my friends make each day interesting. Thank you all.

Edit: And I'm thankful to btoblake for giving me this opportunity to watch a sunrise. Even if I will go blind. ~_^
